This was written on my phone, so if there are errors please bear with me.
My wife and I took a little roadtrip. A couples night out to reconnect. I’m not much of a gambler, but she enjoys it. So we decided to spend the night at a hotel in Miami, Oklahoma.
Now, Miami isn’t known for much beyond the casinos but it did give us some much needed alone time, so I agreed.
As a writer, inspiration can take many forms. From the scenery along the road to the nostalgic feel of the Christmas lights in a small town. I am always on the lookout for inspiration.
In Miami, there is a remnant of a time long ago. An authentic Route 66 American Drive-in. It’s called Waylan’s Hamburgers, the Ku-Ku. An odd name for an amazing place to eat. The atmosphere is authentic and the burgers are incredible. One of the best I’ve ever had, and I’ve tried a lot of burgers in my day. If you’re within a day’s drive of Miami or are traveling the Interstate 44 / Route 66 path, definitely stop in. You will be glad you did. Trust me on this.
Granted, I’m still not much of a gambler, but I’ve spent the day with the woman I love and had some great food. To make things even better, she’s winning at the casino. She’s having fun, and that’s the best part.
So, I’m taking notes in my head. Creating scenes that may or may not ever make their way into a book, and still tasting that burger on my lips. All in all, it’s a great day.
So if you ever find yourself in Miami Oklahoma, stop by Waylan’s. Tell them D.A. sent you. Make sure you get the double giant cheeseburger and onion rings. While you’re at it, bring me back one, too. I like mine with everything. Don’t forget to take in the scenery. You might just be reading one of my books and suddenly realize, “Hey, I’ve been there! ”
Enjoy!
